Makemoret collective is Gal Yakobovitch’s award winning graduate collection.
Makemoret is a surfwear collection made from self made biodegradable materials through techniques traditionally used in surfboard and sails production.
Makemoret Collective was done in collaboration with sails and surfboard makers in Mikhmoret, Israel and with the rockaway beach surfing community in NYC. The process of the collection exemplifies how techniques foreign to traditional fashion production can result in a garment outcome.
Makemoret focuses on how fashion has the ability to consolidate production, increase communication among craftsmen of other fields and ultimately become a cross-industrial practice. These efforts can and should be done with new material innovation that puts the health of the maker and the environment at the top. along with supporting information sharing and eco-conscious DIY practice.
